Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I sure do regard the worship and following after angels as being false and has elements of being somewhat cultic as well.

I was reading a Christian website about African Churches when I saw this link on the top of the page.

Once again my reaction is what is fast becoming my eternal lament - "Where is the discernment?"


BTW I browse with the pictures turned off - so I haven't actually looked at the photos - and to be quite honest don't want to - and not sure any one should look at them actually. There is that old chorus that goes "be careful little eyes what you see...."

I did not post the link because I don't want to single any particular site or people out but this whole angel thing seems to be growing. I have found pictures of "angels" on church websites.

Dont people understand that this whole "angel" thing started in the new age movement. The whole "orbs" thing also started in the new age movement and the first contact I had with it was in an advert for a new age program on TV (I don't actually watch the program but have to put up with the occasional advert) and now Christians are claiming these things to be God's Angels? Sorry but the word "idiocy" is looming large in my mind again.

Let's call a spade a spade shall we - these THINGS are NOT of God. They are either demons or demonic manifestations. May I remind every one that satan is the Angel of Light. I have seen real angels and they are not shiny balls of light, or clouds, or whispy things, or illuminations or any of the above. We do not have "A" one particular guardian angel - that is called a familiar spirit - if we continue in the vein of calling a spade a spade. We do have Angels who are sent to guard us and we are surrounded by them when we walk in the protection of God. But to claim special attachment to one in particular is false.

In the Bible the unanimous reaction to seeing a real Angel was to fall down at their feet. The first words Biblical Angels say are almost always "Do not be afraid" and "Do not worship me". And from personal experience they are pretty awe-inspiring creatures, but we are not meant to worship them or seek them out or expect them to show up instead of God. They do not impart special gifts or any of the other claims made about them. They are "just" messengers of God and comprise God's spiritual army. One day we will judge Angels (but not each other!).

This is a quote from an article about asking your guardian angel for a sign. I post it because there is a salutary lesson in it.

So I asked for a sign to show me if I was on the right path. I asked for colored feathers, as I thought this could be possible but was not so easy as white ones. As I live in a seaside town, the place tends to be littered with white seagull feathers! When you make such a request, you tend to forget that you’ve done it as you continue with the daily round of your life. Which I did!

On my day off, my husband and I decided we would go for a walk on *****. We chose one of the popular circular walks and set off from *****, downwards on a path lined by trees, into the valley. We had not been walking long when I noticed that the birdsong around us sounded strangely different to the usual sounds we hear. I remarked on this to my husband who agreed. We decided that they sounded like tropical birds! We rounded a corner and there in front of us was a tropical bird farm! Intrigued, we went inside, and I asked the gentleman behind the counter if they sold feathers. He told me that they did not, but I was welcome to help myself to any I found. Well! I had red ones, green ones, blue ones, yellow ones, and some 0f variegated colors. In fact so many that I shouted mentally to the heavens “Okay! I get the message!” I laughed a lot on my walk that day and I kept all the feathers and made a display of them to remind me whenever the doubts creep in.

Let me ask a question - do tropical birds have multicoloured feathers? YES DUH I hear you say. Therefore what colour feathers would one expect to find on a tropical bird farm? White? or Multicoloured? So what kind of sign was it exactly to find coloured feathers underneath tropical birds?

And don't we do exactly the same when we go into a meeting, or even ask God for a sign? We want to see a sign or a miracle or a manifestation so badly that we aren't sufficiently analytical about what we are seeing. It takes absolutely zip zero nada none insight to see that the "sign" in this article was nothing of the sort. IF she had found multicoloured feathers on the beach in a flock seagulls then that would have been entirely different.

Whether it is a sign, or manifestations - first apply a little common sense - is it REALLY so unusual or out of place or supernatural - then apply discernment -is it REALLY God or not?

I agree with you. The same sort of stuff is going on here, as well. I've only been walking with the Lord for about 6 years now, so i don't know how long before my time with Him these sorts of things were embedded into Christianity. But the Body surely has lost so much of its discernment.

Hello, Just Me,

I've been reading a lot of things, today, on this blessing of a web site. This topic caught my eye, (among many others), but I must confess, I did not read every post on this topic; only your original post.

I've been taught that Angels are curious about "us," God's special creation, and they want to know more about us. We as a people are so curious about the Angels, but my understanding is that they are intrigued with us.

Angels are a pleasant way to adorn our homes but there is too much emphasis on elevating them as I think they {Angels} might be wanting to elevate us? Somebody, please, teach me in the area of Angels? Thank you

One thing about Angels that has my attention these days.

And it's that The Bible refers to Angels as 'men'.
Satan is refered to as a 'man'. - Is.14:16
And Rev.21:17 the measure of a man that is of an Angel.

There's Scripture about
Entertaining strangers when their really Angels.

I believe "the man of sin' is satan.
And not a human being. -

It would seem to support those people who claim to have received visitations from dead relatives and even the idea that when we die the Lord still puts us to work for Him in some capacity. There are people who claim to have been visited (whether in dream, vision, trance, or actuality) by people from the Scripture. This is one of the reasons why I don't just dismiss those who have fantastic claims because it is Scriptural.
